The GU Aylesbury Arm is closed between Lock 11 and Lock 13 after a collapse at Lock 12. (Fireworks Lock for old ACS members, or the one above Red House)

Or as the man said: A hole has appeared at Lock 12- CART are looking into it!

The only winding hole on the Arm is below Lock 13 so if you are over about 40 ft it will be a reverse out job if you come down from Marsworth.

Waterscrape has the details, but despite being registered for GU stoppage alerts it hasn't yet sent me this one.

Put some spreader bars in the chamber, push the wall back, repoint, make good surroundings

Job done :captain:

That's what I thought too!

Oh, and put a sign on the gates saying 'leave lock full'....

Looks like an easy conversion to a wide lock.

Ducks to avoid incoming.

Could Greenford or Lodge Park make any use of that concrete coping?

Fixing it could be an interesting challenge as I believe the locks on the arm have no by-pass weirs and water is invariably in plentiful supply on the arm so I would envisage that they may have to add a by-pass weir before they can start work.

I'd be surprised to see that lock open again within a month (or two).

Doesn't look like we are going anywhere soon

I wish I'd got in early this morning:

B*****!!

We have the keys, We have had a handover 12000 miles from the boat. We have the money ready, but yet to establish the quantum by valuation, we are arriving in a week and expect to be on board very shortly afterwards. But we will be cast by a broken lock. Time to see the travel agent for a Brit Rail Pass for day trips out of Aylesbury? Inclusive package trips to Greece or Cyprus?

I agree managing the water overflowing the locks could be a challenge as could access ver the soft ground.

well known for UK and European boat transport. Not sure if they have their own crane tho.

The boat club used to organise craneage days in autumn and spring so that owners could club together and lift out for over-Winter maintainance, sharing the cost.

This might be another occasion where a group could get some discount altho the transport bit will be on an individual basis.

A lift-round is being investigated to get boats out of Aylesbury. All those potentially affected should by now have been contacted. If not I suggest you contact the ACS Chairman.

CART's engineers were on-site this morning and I believe a Contractor will be on-site tomorrow to look at the job/estimate his costs.

CART are suggesting that at this stage, subject to fair winds/reasonable weather and no unexpected problems, they should be able to complete the work by late August.

We went over to have a look at the damage on Sunday & it's bad as it looks. The jury may well be out as to whether the earthworks for the adjoining Arla megadairy opened recently have had an effect. Ironically, it could be because the local drainage has been improved, but we'll have to leave that to the experts. All I can say is that if they are planning to use a crane to move boats over the top of the lock, they will have to put down a huge amount of concrete, because there is nothing approaching a solid surface nearby. My wife was talking to some boaters in Aylesbury basin this week; it's funny how quickly we forget the Arm was out of commission this time last year for lack of water...

I suspect that they will be lifted out where they are, - in the basin! The last plan I heard was that they would be put back in at Cassiobury or Milton Keynes.
