Naughty Cal Posted December 18, 2012 Report Posted December 18, 2012 It doesn't seem like two minutes ago we were discussing plans for 2012 but here goes. What have you got planned for 2013. We are having NC out of the water late February early march for her usual drive service anti foul and polish. She should look like a different boat in time for spring. We are not having our usual week long holiday at Easter but we do plan to get away for a few days, probably to hull or Grimsby weather dependant. Our first holiday for the year will be our annual Whitsun week break. Again we plan to try to get to Whitby. Our last couple of attempts have been plagued by bad weather but plan b as always is wells next the sea. Our main holiday for 2013 is to be a two week break on the Norfolk broads. Again this is dictated by the weather so it is likely there will only be a week on the broads with a week put aside for getting there and back again. This worked well last time as we had a relaxed week heading for home with no rushing around. This still leaves us with time to spare so late in the year we plan to have a week in York if the river levels behave that is. As this will be an extended holiday we will also have the chance to visit sprotborough during the return journey. As usual we will also have bank holidays and weekends to enjoy with trips planned on the wash with Lincoln boat club and up the Trent to Newark. 2013 promises to be a good year of cruising but a lot will depend on the weather. We were lucky with the weather this year but can that last for next year as well?
Ray T Posted December 18, 2012 Report Posted December 18, 2012 Getting CF blacked early April - then we will go which ever way the boat points.
DeanS Posted December 18, 2012 Report Posted December 18, 2012 doesnt the world end next week? If not, I'm cruising to Liverpool...Lancaster canal?....Liverpool to Leeds...Pennines back to Manchester.......CANT WAIT.
steven wilkinson Posted December 18, 2012 Report Posted December 18, 2012 well! If I win that £69m lottery prize tonight, my plans may change!
cotswoldsman Posted December 18, 2012 Report Posted December 18, 2012 I am presently on Leeds and Liverpool and will be heading down to Gloucester via Birmingham and Stratford and The River Avon.
Athy Posted December 18, 2012 Report Posted December 18, 2012 No doubt we shall be trundling up and down the Oxford again! Actually we rather fancy following the historic craft next year as they journey to Alvecote and then to Shackerstone. It depends on Mrs. Athy's holiday entitlement.
Naughty Cal Posted December 18, 2012 Author Report Posted December 18, 2012 I am presently on Leeds and Liverpool and will be heading down to Gloucester via Birmingham and Stratford and The River Avon. You are lucky. I do envy how much of the inland system you get to see.
haggis Posted December 18, 2012 Report Posted December 18, 2012 doesnt the world end next week? If not, I'm cruising to Liverpool...Lancaster canal?....Liverpool to Leeds...Pennines back to Manchester.......CANT WAIT. Not sure if wide beams can go through the locks between the River Douglas and the Lancaster canal. Mind you, we did see quite alot of WBs when we were there in July so maybe they can... haggis
GoodGurl Posted December 18, 2012 Report Posted December 18, 2012 we intend to do the bridgewater and maccesfield canals next year if the world don't end
Smiff63 Posted December 18, 2012 Report Posted December 18, 2012 We are wintering on the Rufford then next year going down to Brentford. Route is in the hands of CRT and if they get Preston brook fixed in time.
Tacet Posted December 18, 2012 Report Posted December 18, 2012 Probably London first, then K and A to Bristol, the Fens and Lancaster Canal with a few diversions in between.
Ange Posted December 18, 2012 Report Posted December 18, 2012 We're in the Worcester area at the moment. After a detour to Calf Heath for the Easter banter we're planning to go back down the Severn and hire a pilot to take us through the Bristol Channel onto the K&A. Then an exploration of the K&A, London canals and Lea & Stort, finishing on the South Oxford. Probably back to the Birmingham area for winter. Mind you we said last year we'd spend this year exploring the Northern canals and ended up vising the Shroppie, Llangollen and Montgomery so who knows! Not sure if wide beams can go through the locks between the River Douglas and the Lancaster canal. Mind you, we did see quite alot of WBs when we were there in July so maybe they can... haggis They're double locks so it should be ok. Be a bit interesting in the narrower parts of Savick Brook but I'm sure we saw a wide beam doing the crossing one of the many times we checked it out before our crossing.
