Just being nosy really and asking if anyone else is planning to be onboard over the Christmas period.

If the weather stays as forecast we will be heading down the witham again this year and enjoying a relaxing week pottering around between Lincoln and Boston before heading back to the marina and woodcocks pub for their New Years party.

We did much the same last year and really enjoyed it. This year we had planned to head up the Trent but with locks out of action and water levels that are up and down likes a whores knickers at the moment we have plumped for the safer option.

Now Christmas dinner is a bit of a challenge with our limited cooking facilities but we reckon we can cobble together garlic and ginger king prawn salad followed by Cajun slow cooked duck served with sweet potatoes, portini mushroom stuffing and asparagus with a lemon mousse to round off the meal. Oh and of course the cheese board and fresh coffee throughout the day!

Anyone else?

Serious note...lucky you. We go to my sisters for Christmas, a long standing family tradition. We keep saying that it would be nice to have Christmas on board, we have plenty of room in the saloon with a big table and no problem with the galley size but putting people up is a problem as we only have 2 spare beds.

The other half likes to go away as there is a bath....we have a shower and I strongly resist, on the grounds of water useage and space, any suggestion for a bath installation. Hope you have a really enjoyable Christmas

In the past we have always gone out on Christmas Day, had toasted bacon & mushroom sandwiches for lunch then gone back home for the full blow-out.

This year some friends joining us on the 23rd then heading up the Llangollen for a few days. Boat will be loaded to the gunwales with food and drink, not least a turkey plus all the trimmings.

After we get back, son & gf are coming over for a second "Christmas Day" or "+mas". Traditional bacon & mushroom toasties for that, then Beef Wellington later.

Problem then is getting rid of the excess weight - a lean January is forecast!

Ah yes. We have a week of walking and plenty of exercise and fresh air planned to keep the excess fat at bay.

No, sadly. I would LOVE to be on our boat for Christmas. My chap has to go and visit his daughter, I spend Christmas day with my sister and her family.

Maybe one day... :(

We have the last couple of years decided that Christmas is going to be for us, we are doing what we want to do. We can see family any other time of the year.

Last year Christmas on the boat was fantastic and very relaxing so hopefully this year will be just as good if not better.

I am planning to head south leaving on Boxing Day hopefully to Cassiobridge or maybe further, returning to the Marsworth area by New Years Eve and then heading north and return by Jan 5/6.

If you've been doing it a while I 'spect you know your way around - but if you haven't found the Royal Oak at Fritham it might be worth a trip out. Nice walk to be had down to the pond and lots of Holly if it hasn't all been turned into wreaths.

We were getting that way hence our shift for the last couple of years to heading off on the boat. We can then spend the time as and when we like.

I will be on my boat for Christmas but going to relatives for dinner itself.

Should of been installing their new kitchen but been delayed by car trouble. Anyway I will install the new kitchen intime for Chrismas and am planning not move my narrowboat up to Barton until Boxing day now.

I want to allow a full week.

I will be on the boat for Christmas, because the drive to work is easier from there than it is from home. Hoping to get out of the marina for three days or so, between my Christmas and New Year shifts.

Hi mate

Thanks for that. We have been going down there for years as our lad runs a pub in the forest so we can be cheeky and pop in for free beer and nosh but still avoid stopping with them  We will of course be having a free slap up xmas day lunch in his restaurant

We will try the Royal Oak though, thanks for the tip.
