With the main hiring season coming to an end we are now starting to get those pesky boats south of Middlewich back home (bar one which is stuck at Anderton). We started moving two yesterday from Church Minshull and put them in Rode Heath for a few days, to be joined by a third on Saturday when our hirers return the boat they are on there.

When the remaining hirers return the last 2 boats to Church Minshull on Saturday, we'll get those moving to Rode Heath.

Then on Monday we'll start moving the five boats around the Cheshire Ring to get back. If you see us, give us a wave... if you are behind us in the lock queue, I apologise in advance!

I'll be posting photos and video from the trip on our website if you fancy a look.

Cheers

Good luck Paul.

Hope all goes to plan for you and hope you get some decent weather for your marathon !!

As an aside it was refreshinly nice to see your positive attitude to the struggle you recently faced due to the breeches .

In this current world of negativity your approach was spot on - and I'm sure your customers will appreciate all you have done to save their holidays.

I look forward to the pics !!!

All the best

hi Paul went past your boats at Rode Heath yesterday. moored on Macc now restarting journey on Wednesday. The stop Lock on the macc is a bugger to open more water leaking in than its letting out.

Well done Paul Hired off Claymoore a few times over the years. instead of doing this your self why didnt you get a few boat movers to movbe the boats for you. am sure some would have jumped at the chance!

We did think about doing that and did get quite a few offers. In the end though I think it's only fair to reward all of the staff with a week away. Plus it has the added advantage of refreshing their knowledge of the Cheshire Ring for when they are talking to customers and passing boaters.

We are going to be well short of people on the lock flights though so any offers of people to help get the boats through the various flights would be much appreciated!

We may well see you then Brin depending on our progress. When I did that stop lock the other week I thought it was never going to empty!

I think we will be at Marple on Wednesday hopefully.

If you need more lockwheelers I can be there as well and so can Lemontoes

If it changes from Wednesday it would be good if you can let me know because I shall be travelling to get there

A known feature!

The top gate don't seal against the cill when closed so water leaks under the top gates whilst emptying the lock.

There is however a knack to getting over this. Once the lock has dropped a couple of inches and the leaky gate is obvious, "bounce" the top gate. That is to say plant your backside on the beam and give it a quick shove as if opening it. The gate will miraculously reseat itsel and stop leaking.

Moored at Scholar Green tonight right outside Heritage Narrowboats... which is handy as it meant I could walk home and spend the night here :)

Farewell Heartbreak Hill... it was emotional :)

I hope to add a little blog entry each night. If you are interested in reading it and seeing a few pics then you can find it at my virtual canals Cheshire Ring blog pages.

I have left "Jenny May" at bridge 81 just before bosley locks. Had to go to work. Back on Wednesday to complete the journey. So I am sure we will cross paths at some stage.

:) I thought I had but it turns out this ex IT technician can't work computers!

I should be back from the dentist when you pass our mooring just after 10:00 am tomorrow?

If somebody waves at you between bridges 77 and 78 with a crooked smile it will be me

Have a good trip - nice blog BTW.

Walking up Marple Locks today I met nb Inspiration, who were doing exagtly what you are doing, apparently they moor at Claymoor.

What time at Marple tomorrow? At a rough guess it will take over an hour and a half for all five boats to enter the flight, which means, given I have a meeting in Stockport at 10am, I have a racing chance of getting down with the last boat?

We passed you all today at starting at the Boseley top lock which meant every lock was in our favour. Makes a nice change from when we went up the fligt and every lock was against us. I'm still not sure how it came about that we passed two of you in one short pound :)

Have a good trip

We are now moored at the Olde Kings Head on the Gurnett Aqueduct near Macclesfield. Going by the Pearsons it says roughly 3.5 hours to Marple. We are leaving here about 7:30am so should be at Marple around 11 ish.

Tried to look at your blog several times tonight and i get the message "The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to the site owner reaching his/her bandwidth limit. Please try again later."

Any chance of fixing it as I am enjoying reading about your trip

Yes. Looks like I have set the limit too low. If I can get the broadband dongle working on the laptop I have the password to get in and up the limit... And write about today!

Great, thanks,
