Who is the shell builder please?

Roger

It's a Tayberg. I love the shape, but the previous owner had a very plain fit out (I will post photos), so I'm refitting it out.

I'll add more details to the about page of the boat.

She's a lovely looking shape, Robbo, - just lovely

She is, it's what sold it too me, I briefly met the builder once who said it needs a nice fit out, I'm hopefully going to do it justice!

Here's some more details of the boat...

Shell Builder: Tayberg Steel Boats

Year Built: 2003

Size: 50′ x 12′

Engine: John Deere 85hp

Hull: Steel, 20:10:6:4

The photo on the blog was a bit of a mock up for the colour scheme I'm thinking off, but here's what it looks like now (minus all the roof junk)...

Ah, thought it might be. For a very small builder they do seem to produce quite a good looking boat.

Well Robbo, I have to congratulate you, you seem to have found yourself a lovely looking and well built small barge.

Wish you all the best with the new fit-out, and hope you'll keep us posted of your progress on her.

Success,

Peter.

Thank you for your kind comments...

I'm looking for ideas of interior layouts, mainly for the bathroom and bedroom. I'll be posting a few plans up for feedback soon..

Alter the layout slowly that way you can enjoy the boat and find out what works and what doesn't. While we where rebuilding our barge the lounge was moved, as we found we preferred the middle of the boat and the stove was moved twice with holes being cut and welded. Corridors are a waste of space, a bath was a must, A guest bedroom for children who visit sometimes is also a waste of space, an Ikea bed with a built in frame will stand against the wall. You have a lovely boat from a good builder I looked at having a full width boat built by him before we found Merlin.

Been on the boat for 4 years now, and basically it's now down to the sprayfoam shell (your advice of basically living on it first was the best advice I had when I got the boat). I know the rough layout of the kitchen and living area that I want (although I've changed my mind many times!). The bedroom (only room for one!) is going to be at the bow with the bed head at the bow. The bathroom is next and here's where I'm slightly undecided on as I'm against corridors as well. It will make sense once I've drawn the plan of the boat and location of the windows.

With doors in the bulkhead the bathroom can be full width. Spring loaded closers will stop the damp from the bathroom else all your clothes will go mouldy in the wardrobe/drawers. it is a constant war against damp. We lived on our barge for 10 years ripped out the pump out and used a porta potti then we took the cassette in the car to empty it. Cruised all the wide waterways apart from the Medway.

My neighbour has this design of bathroom (wide beam), I'm not sure myself, but it certainly made a decent size bathroom. I'm looking at a wetroom as I like decent size showers, unless I use the full size width for the bathroom I have around 4ft by 6-7ft to play with.

Update

halcyon-l-painting.jpg?w=490&h=365

After stripping out and removing all the interior including wall partitions, side panels and ceiling panels sometime ago, the L shaped structure of the hull had a layer of surface rust, after using an angle grinder with wire wheel and then stripping disc the starboard side under the gunwale has now been painted. Just the other side and roof now to do!

I've added a few more updates to the blog the main one now been that the roof now been primed and has a couple of undercoats...

It's very white and I'm tempted to use white as a top coat with black features. Gonna need some decent sun glasses though!
