Hertford Union Middle Lock

Wednesday 30 May 2012 until further notice There is no passage through the middle lock on the Hertford Union due to asset failure.

Enquiries: 0207 985 7200

Is this corporate bullshit speak for "broken gate", or what ?

The "asset" that has been missing there on at least two of the occasions we have tried to go through in the past is any water in the pound between the top two locks!

Alan, you happened to be correct there, no water!

Duckets / Hertford Union is open - I haven't seen a lifting of the stoppage notice but it is open.

Old Ford (Lee) has the power back on now - a horrible new fandangled 'computerised' control panel is now in place. There must be sensors in the water built into the new system to detect when the levels are equal, that just seems like something to go wrong! I prefer the old system of weight of water and hydraulic bypass valve used elsewhere!

I have no local knowledge as to why this on the face of it seems a very, very, long stoppage, but this is what CRT say......

Well it will be interesting to see if the have started work today someone told me that it had been closed since Jan, this little stretch makes a huge difference to the time it takes to get into london, not that I want to rush, but not yet living aboad am only a weekender.

Came through there mid January - had to let a lot of water into the pound as it was VERY low. Constant problem but easily fixed short-term

Came through in February, so definitely not closed all year. I believe that the work on the top lock took longer than planned, delaying work on Top. When I took the diversion at Easter they were saying end of April as the earliest it would open.

Went past last night on my bike, was approx half full and navigable, came past again this morning, middle section had about six inches of water in. As I'm new to this I suspect someone's leaving paddles or gates open when they shouldnt?

Bit annoying as I'm waiting to get to Victoria Park...
