He may get away with it:
The Ministry of Defence initially said it was investigating what was behind a loud noise in Oxfordshire but a spokesman later confirmed it was from one of two RAF Typhoons that had been launched following an emergency call from a helicopter.
The helicopter had transmitted on the wrong frequency, he said.

Just heard the news,RAF say it was one off there fighters being scrambled. Going where? I thought the sonic boom happened when the plain was coming towards Briton, being scrambled would mean it was going away???

Hope those of you going to join the Jubilee flotilla down the Thames brush up on your VHF procedures or you might come face-to-face with a nuclear sub

I heard nothing, but I am really rather disappointed in all of you that no one has yet suggested aliens...
Nah, can't have been aliens, no orbs were seen…

Saw somewhere today that from wheels-up in Lincolnshire to Bath took less than 6 minutes...... Christ that's even faster than Phylis

He said: "The transponder is a box on the dashboard and it just identifies which green blip you are on the screen for air traffic control.
"The number that you put in the transponder if you're just flying around is 7000.
"It's just like a thunderclap" - Dr Jim Wild on how and why a sonic boom happens
"But if you've been hijacked, you put in 7500.
Handy to know.
