We decided to start this "Build Blog" for two reasons, firstly we realise that CWDF is the font of all knowledge and in posting the details we hope we can get lot's of feedback both positive and negative (hopefully mostly positive!).

We also felt it would be useful for anyone who is thinking of having a narrowboat built to see a further example of the processes involved.

Well, the work on "Sedona" started on Tuesday 20th May and we went along on Friday 23rd to talk over some details.

I took these photo's whilst I was at the builders, not much to see just yet but I must say I was surprised to see what can be accomplished in just 3 days!

I got the name for the boat from a place in Arizona after a visit to the USA in 2003 to travel Route 66 (or at least what's left of it).

Very beautiful, tranquil scenery which I think lends itself well to travelling around many parts of the UK Canal Network.

So, please feel free to join in on the build of Sedona with all of your comments, they will be much appreciated and I hope that myself others will benefit from them.

Well, you do live in a very beautiful part of the world and when I was trying to think of a name for the boat I remembered when I was travelling around Az back in 2003, I actually stayed in an RV park in Mesa !!

I'm hoping to get that photo of Sedona somehow painted onto the boat!

Best wishes,

Week: 4

Amazing to see the transformation of sheets of flat steel after only FOUR WEEKS.

I must say, I have seen other build logs/blogs and they were certainly nowhere near as far forward with their builds by week 4.

Engine is in, Spray Foam is Complete and Two Coats of Undercoat have been applied. I guess sometimes it is good to go with a Small Company.

http://perfectday.myphotoalbum.com/slidesh...bumName=album01 There a now a total of 34 photo's to see.

Have just added some more photo's: http://perfectday.myphotoalbum.com/slidesh...bumName=album01

Work slowed over the summer due to JD moving premises and having to settle in at Shardlow, But now everything is back on track, great bunch of people, really dedicated to their Customers. You will see in the latest photo's, the results of the new process they are using for lacquering the bulkheads, ceiling wood etc.

Have now decided to leave Sedona at Shardlow till the springtime, then we will cruise down to Brinklow Marina. If anyone has any questions regarding the build, please feel free to talk to me!

Just added some new Photo's Looks like Sedona will be ready in about 3 weeks time, We asked the builders to "go slow" on the build last year as we wouldn't have been able to get it from Shardlow to Brinklow in November because of stoppages, plus wo*k meant I had no spare time to take a week off

Worked down Stoke Bruerne flight with this boat tonight.

I knew that I knew the name from the forum, so assumed that the owners might be the same as the enthusiastic ones having it completed in 2009.

Not so, it appears, it's new owners have owned it since last Autumn, which also seems to be about when Oliver1954 last visited the forum.

Another case of the dream never quite turning out as expected ?

There seem to be an awful lot of bespoke narrow boats that come to the resale market at around a year or so after original delivery.

Anyway new owners seem most happy with Sedona, and reckon they got themselves a bit of a bargain compared to the price of a completely new boat.

I wonder if the new owners are aware of this video?

Tony

Doubtful they know much, as apparently they told my wife they knew it was named after a place, but didn't really know where it was. If they were to read Oliver1954's posts, they might well learn a lot more about their boat!
