Yes but only to my waist leaving me enough room so about half closed

Aha, if you wore a huge great Sombrero, complete with drain pipe it would protect all from rain and you could keep it open.

The search function is on the top right hand side - if you click the gear symbol next to the search bit you get more options.

You can get notifications - I'll have a look to see where it is (though someone will probably tell you before I find it!)

Got it. Click the down arrow next to your name on the top right hand side and select "My Settings". Then select "Notification Options" from the list on the left hand side. You'll find a section headed "Topics and Posts" where you can opt to receive notifications by e-mail.

Sorted......thanks.

You are assuming our recent high winds have not either blown the sombrero off your head or if fitted with a chin strap blown you as well.

Well this is one of my main concerns with a trad and i think i am leaning towards a cruiser stern if only for this reason.

We really did appreciate the outside space on the boats we hired but thought this somewhat unusable space would be .....errrm.........unusable, in a liveaboard scenario.

I suppose i can`t have everything i want and as with most things a compromise will have to made somewhere.

But with a large outside space you can sit and enjoy the great british weather.

Oh hang on. Hmm.......

Of course you can always fit a stern cover and make yourself a conservatory.laugh.png

ETA: Even in the depths of winter we sit outside in the cockpit of our cruiser through choice. With the heating on (if its really cold outside with a little help from an extra heater) it is lovely and warm and we sit with a few beers watching the world go by.

We were deciding between trad and semi-trad, then then we found our boat. It is a trad with a larger than normal hatch. You do see quite a few like that, and it is an arrangement that has worked well for us. There is plenty of space for 2 people in the hatch. The main disadvantage is that the hatch is very heavy, most noticeable when closing from inside.

If you are going to liveaboard then I suggest you choose a layout with kitchen at the back. In bad weather in winter you will want to get inside before removing waterproofs, boots etc and it is better to do this on a waterproof or moppable surface (which you'll probably want in your kitchen area.

Also, try to find a boat that has some space to hang up dripping wet coats.

This arrangement looks good for bad weather and your dog is bigger than mine, He/she looks to have ample room without getting under your feet.

Alastair you read my mind.

Our preferred layout would indeed include a rear kitchen, apart from that i am open minded as to where the bedroom and lounge area should be.

Are particular layouts synonymous with particular types of boat or boat builders/fitters?
