Thats not just on the rivers, in the stretch from Charity Dock to Hawkesbury, there is a drain enters from the towpath side. The mud bank is now less than a foot from the surface at least 2 feet out from the bank, and quite long.

I'm not surprised, I expect that the large amount of water we have seen can move significantly quantities of material and then dump it as the flow reduces. There are also some stoppages I need to check on before I set off so I think I'll leave it a day or two and see what the weekend brings. I'm quite comfortable where I am for the time being and don't want to set off until I have reasonable chance of reaching the marina.

And the marina, This may be your berth.

Similar ice here on the GU. My mooring is a few pontoons to the left.

Just to remind you that these two locks are closed for repairs.

Ashton 26 Nov 2012 to 21 Dec 2012

Water Newton 03 Dec 2012 to 24 Dec 2012

I was aware but thanks for the reminder. I'll speak to EA to see how they are progressing in view of the recent floods. I recall someone mentioned that it may be possible to arrange passage at weekends.

If not I'll sit tight and see how the weather is over the Christmas window.

According to me friend who's currently travelling on the Nene, they've postponed all lock work until after the Christmas break as a result of the floods

Thanks that is very welcome news. The EA site is still showing the planned closures but they may not have updated the site yet.

Just a quick note to confirm the lock works planned for December have now been re-scheduled for the the New Year. As a consequence the work will restart on 2 Jan 13 and run to end Mar 13 with only one very small window 1-3 Mar when the whole river is open. Link to EA notice below

I have a few bits to sort out in Milton Keynes today and plan to head off tomorrow. Should reach Northampton on Monday afternoon and will probably moor on the canal overnight then head up the Nene on Tuesday.

Seem to have an ice free week forecast so as long as the rain holds off and I should be OK.

well I don't know how bad it is down there, but the Soar is well into flood yet again, only about 4" shy of it's level 3 weeks ago.

Did you make it? We were about a week behind you and had to give up. We are heading to Floods Ferry which isn't far from Foxes. Moored at Gayton Marina now until they finish all the works in March.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

No the river is still running too fast and there are several lock closures. I held at Northampton for 2 weeks with no luck so decided to move on and try again in a couple of months. Moored at Braunston then heading over to Oxford next.
