Wanted Posted October 4, 2012 Author Report Posted October 4, 2012 Well done Rob the home brew is expanding I will be back at Brentford in a couple of months and will seek you out as I promised a couple of bottle’s of mead and I have a good blackberry and soon to bottle elderberry wine Its all easy to make and cheap as the right time of year apart from the mead unless you have a few hives that is Ooh. I look forwards to it! give me a shout when you get down and we'll nip up the fox of summit!
Wanted Posted October 5, 2012 Author Report Posted October 5, 2012 (edited) First fermentation now stopped, quicker than I though but all looking OK, bottling up tomorrow... http://wrongbow.blogspot.co.uk Edited October 5, 2012 by Wanted
Wanted Posted October 6, 2012 Author Report Posted October 6, 2012 And the bottling is done..... http://wrongbow.blogspot.co.uk
luctor et emergo Posted October 6, 2012 Report Posted October 6, 2012 Most excellent. You have done us proud. Will you check the poison alcohol strength before you taste, or dare you try it as it comes...
Wanted Posted October 6, 2012 Author Report Posted October 6, 2012 Most excellent. You have done us proud. Will you check the poison alcohol strength before you taste, or dare you try it as it comes... I think I will have a check but if I got my calcs I think it will become about 10% or if you are after a more scientific approach... 1pint will induce the need to dance to abba 2pints will induce the need to fight with your friends 3pints and you will find yourself on a park bench shouting at pigeons 4pints and you will be shouting at paramedics 5pints and you feel a sense of detachment from everything you have ever known, the world for what it is worth will slowly disappear into your own naval and Margaret Thatcher will seem like a viable option. Drink irresponsibly
Brin Morris Posted October 7, 2012 Report Posted October 7, 2012 "drink it and shout at pigeons" Absolute class. Reading blog best laugh ive had today
Wanted Posted October 7, 2012 Author Report Posted October 7, 2012 "drink it and shout at pigeons" Absolute class. Reading blog best laugh ive had today Glad you like it Brin, I have never bogged before but really enjoyed it. My girlfriend is impressed with my commitment to home brew and has agreed for me to buy a cider press! Well, what else is a cruise stern for! If any brave soles are passing through Brentford anytime in the next few weeks let me know and I may be able to nip a wrongbow sample across...
luctor et emergo Posted October 7, 2012 Report Posted October 7, 2012 Having never drunk Cider, but occassionally passing on the M25/M40, I feel an un-natural urge for an unauthorised de-tour, on my next run into the 'big smoke'.... Mind you, as you are seemingly still posting, you can't be blind yet...
Wanted Posted October 7, 2012 Author Report Posted October 7, 2012 And you'd be more than welcome, brew not ready for another 15 days, the bottles are sat there, taunting us, urging us to open one early, but no, I will resist.......
luctor et emergo Posted October 7, 2012 Report Posted October 7, 2012 To put thongs into prespetive, dancing to ABBA normally takes at least 8 pints.. Shouting at pigeons.... errm.... Fight with friends? I prefer the phrase 'debate'... 'Got any spare change guv? '
Caprifool Posted October 23, 2012 Report Posted October 23, 2012 Will there be any left in November? Have a meeting in Piccadilly and might pop round.
Ron T Posted October 23, 2012 Report Posted October 23, 2012 Hope it turns out great Wanted.Tried those lozenge things in a real ale brew[coopers] and they don't dissolve too readily even after a few shakes, they must be ok though as I'm sure I forgot to shake some of them and non where rejected.Brewed up a "Black Rock" N.Z. cider, the bloke in the brew shop sold me a heap of plastic 750mil bottles as he reckons cider reaches higher pressures during the second fermentation.I put some in a couple of stubbies to test that theory and they were fine.He also suggested bottle as soon as the sg was spot on,no sooner and no later. The other suggestion he made re cider was leave for a min of six weeks or it will taste like vinegar,I opened one at three weeks and it was fine though must admit it's getting better. It was brewed for the ladies as I don't drink cider but I'll drink this stuff it's good.Might have a go at making some your style,if it makes me even tap my feet to Abba I'll drink it for the rest of my life! 1

Good work Ron, I am going to hold off for a while longer but it is tempting..... currently making some perry. here is a blog post from last years perry making http://www.20three.com/2011/09/perry-sweet-pears-and-their-lovely-juice/ Good work, did you scrat the pears first?
grahoom Posted October 23, 2012 Report Posted October 23, 2012 Good work, did you scrat the pears first? What I do is use a wooden post and mash them in a plastic bucket - this way you get a good pulp. Then I use old pillow cases to make the "cheeses" that go between the old oak boards I use to layer in the press. Works pretty well.

I want to adapt the press I have (it's a workshop press) so it's more efficient, but at the moment it does the job.
Hairy-Neil Posted October 23, 2012 Report Posted October 23, 2012 My friend Trouty doesn't come on here so often of late so I'll post a photo of his home brewery And the results of our experimentation, him in the making and me in the role of guinea pig, of a rather fine bottle conditioned, full grain golden ale....

Now that is cool, how to convince C that we don't need a kitchen on the boat anymore....
Wanted Posted December 8, 2012 Author Report Posted December 8, 2012 Well, the Wrongbow is ready! See my boozy blog for the last post of this brew... http://wrongbow.blogspot.co.uk/
OldPeculier Posted December 8, 2012 Report Posted December 8, 2012 This is a heads up for Tesco 'Everyday Value Summer fruits Juice' £1.39 for two litres. In the chilled section. two of these plus 600g sugar makes a lovely light rose with a hint of strawberry. With the yeast, nutrient, finings etc it works out at about 75p a bottle. I have been doing one a week for the last couple of months.
