If its likely to be a moderately frequent event could you not try wetsuit gloves? Youll find them in anything from about 3mm up. An old wetsuit jacket sleeve for the arm? David
bizzard Posted March 12, 2012 Report Posted March 12, 2012 (edited) You could also put your arms and hands in the fridge for a half hour before hand so as to acclimatize them before taking the plunge. But don't go away and leave them to it in case they get too cold. Ps goose grease rubbed in makes quite a good barrier. Edited March 12, 2012 by bizzard
Darren72 Posted March 12, 2012 Report Posted March 12, 2012 boil the kettle and empty its contents into the hatch
AJLintern Posted March 12, 2012 Report Posted March 12, 2012 You can get long gauntlets like what James Herriot would wear when investigating a cow's internals...

As you will be moored up, wait for a passing pedestrian of the male variety, and ask if he would mind helping you to rescue your knickers ..................
bizzard Posted March 12, 2012 Report Posted March 12, 2012 Stick with glue a waterproof glove onto the end of a 2'length of flexible ducting, thrust you fist through it and into the glove.
Keeping Up Posted March 12, 2012 Report Posted March 12, 2012 boil the kettle and empty its contents into the hatch Wot he said. Surprisingly it works.

The only ones I could find were the disposable type which I thought wouldn't be very good, but maybe if worn inside a pair of surgeon type gloves may be better.

An old wetsuit jacket sleeve for the arm? David That's a good idea, and if Bux has extra long arms she could use the legs. I sometimes wore a wet suit when dinghy sailing and found that they tore easily on sharp objects though.
Grace and Favour Posted March 12, 2012 Report Posted March 12, 2012 A thin cotton glove underneath yer Marigolds
AJLintern Posted March 12, 2012 Report Posted March 12, 2012 The only ones I could find were the disposable type which I thought wouldn't be very good, but maybe if worn inside a pair of surgeon type gloves may be better. How about these? http://www.baconsdozen.co.uk/gloves.htm
The Bagdad Boatman (waits) Posted March 12, 2012 Report Posted March 12, 2012 Do not be so nesh! Cutting a car tyre off the prop high up on the Huddersfield canal on a trad with a very small weed hatch just as the canal opened after the winter stoppage two winters ago, there was still snow on the hills. now that's cold.

Farey Posted March 13, 2012 Report Posted March 13, 2012 I use pond gloves - you can get them at garden centres, or a google search will find plenty of online suppliers.
