From the BBC

SNIP The project will take two years to complete but British Waterways said it will not affect canal users as it will be carried out in the winter stoppage. "We will be doing the work when the canal is closed between October and March and the towpath will remain open," said Mr Higham" SNIP

What's that all about! Our winter navigation may be curtailed by the closure of the Lune Aqueduct but the canal is open 365 days per year as far as I'm concerned!

The problem we have here I am afraid that too many people have adopted the nonsensical term " In the season " As you rightly say there is no such thing as a season as I have said before that word is used for dogs NOT boating. The trouble is with many boaters " plenty on this forum " using the term In the season it gives jobsworths in control of OUR canals to shut them when they think fit. :(

Yep we got a flavour of BW's attitude towards winter boating when we were moving Iona down south just after we'd bought her in late October. A note was pinned to one of the BW notice boards saying something like "it's xx days until Christmas, time you put your boat in it's marina"
