Thanks for the hint, Iain. I have checked the manual and compared what I see on my SG display with the SmartBank Advanced Menu as printed. All is OK there and it verifies that SB Advanced is properly wired up and communicating with the SG. I am now looking for the instructions turning on the Verbose setting as you suggested. BRB That's it! On the SU2 menu I needed to change the setting from dt L to dt F. All is back to normal. Note to self: RTFM N

Not thunderflies then. Gnat? Not a mosquito. Not sure what a gnat is and whether it bites.

Anchor advice for the Nene, and Ouse,Please.

Comparing Danforth and Kobra 2. I would suggest that the big disadvantage of the Kobra is that is will be less easy to store. If you have a good length of chain cable to hold the stock well down and parallel to the river bed with a long rope warp attached I don't see why the Danforth wouldn't work fine. We, too, also rig the anchor at the upstream end of the boat. -
Sounds like Thunder Flies to me. AKA Thrips. They used to appear regularly every year when the oil seed rape was harvested. Harmless but irritating. They got behind the glass of famed pictures and died there. I hesitate to kill any insects these days. There are too few of them about to maintain a healthy ecosystem.

After many changes involving the removal of the engine, Smartbank has lost its Advanced capability. Before I set about looking at all the connections what should I be checking first? Smartgauge appears to be working OK and Samrtbank is switching the split charge relay but I am getting none of the messages on the Smartgauge display such as CON. I've had it for yearsnyears and it has worked faultlessly until now. Any ideas? Nick

Many of us remember the oil drop experiment where you calculate the length of an oil molecule from the area of the spread of oil on water. The theory resting on the fact that the oil spreads on the water until the film is one molecule thick. Edited to add: I should have read the thread right through before posting that. Words to that effect had already been said.

Sleaford Navigation: Ferry/Halfpenny Hatch Bridge
Theo replied to Bristolfashion's topic in General Boating
The Basingstoke Canal has a low bridge but we haven't been there for so long that I can't remember which one! To get Theodora under it we filled the water tank (about 800 Litres) and filled every bin and container that we had and put them as far forward as possible. We approach the bridge very slowly, killed the way on the boat and took the engine out of gear. Margaret and I both went up to the bow and crouched on the gas locket hatch. We very slowly pushed Theodora through and succeeded with less than an inch to spare If we had found that we were a bit too high then the plan was to co-opt bystanders or squaddies from Deepcut Barracks to lend us their weight to push the bow down. Overcoming these difficulties is such fun! Nick -
Thanks both. I am pretty sure I am up to that. One we are back on our moorings (Tardebigge Old Wharf) I will remove the pump and take it home to do the job. I'll let you know when the job's done. Is there any way that I can bench test it? Nick

...just a bit but enough to make me want to do something about it. Here are the pump details: Johnson Pump AB Sweden FB5-802 10-24073-2 J06 I doubt if I am competent to replace the seal myself. Advice, please. Nick

Thanks, Tony, as ever. I will look into it further... Just about to start another thread about the raw water pump

Thanks, Tony. The needle is stuck over on the right at all times. Ignition on or off. Incidentally it's the same with the oil pressure gauge. The sender might have been changed. The engine seized when our son was going down the Severn. We had to have the engine reconditioned at Calcutt. Just to check: I am assuming that the sender is fitted just be low the hot outlet of the cooling system. N

I am trouble shooting my temp gauge but haven't any idea how its wired. I know the correct correction for the sender but that's as far as it goes. I can't get at the back just now but here's a pic of the front:
